Imagine sitting down at a formal dinner, like a wedding or awards ceremony, and this is your table setting. Can you identify what is wrong with this picture and why? Hint: Look at the napkin.
Here are the 5 uses for the napkin:
The napkin starts the meal. Cloth napkins are folded in half with the loose ends closest to your waist so you can easily pick up the napkin from the corners to wipe your mouth. A paper napkin should be opened completely and placed in your lap.
The napkin is for wiping your mouth. You can also use it to cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough but DO NOT blow your nose into it.
Start at the corner of your mouth and make a “V” to the other side.
The napkin catches crumbs that fall in your lap.
The napkin ends the meal. Place the napkin on the left side of your dinner plate when you are ready to exit the table.
Some of these uses are common sense but a good reminder for when the napkin is needed!

Answer:
The napkin is placed under the forks. This would require you to lift the forks from your table setting to pick up the napkin. The proper placement is either to the left of the forks or on the plate.
